Sun Innovations developed an innovative photoluminescent emissive projection display (EPD), by projecting a blue ray "excitation" image onto a fully transparent emissive screen. The wavebands of the excitation image have a blue Stokes shift from the conventional RGB projection images, hence special emissive screen can be made to selectively absorb the excitation image wavebands to render high-quality emissive images, without scattering or blocking ambient visible light. With the screen made of nanocrystalline phosphors or molecules, a haze-free, fully transparent emissive screen can be made.
