Photodetectors and image sensors based on colloidal quantum dot (CQD) as the photosensitive elements have long been heralded as offering cost-efficient and readily scalable manufacturing processes coupled with wavelength tunability extending far into the infrared. This promise has begun to be realised with a number of manufacturers now offering infrared cameras utilising CQD sensors. We review recent developments, give examples of selected sensing applications and identify future trends.
